CEBU is in for a treat with Megaworld’s weeklong Lechon Festival to be held in Mactan Newtown. It is dubbed the grandest Lechon festival ever and will be even more sumptuous than the one hosted last year.

“This is our second year to be holding this festival and we have never been prouder to be working on it again with the Lapu-Lapu City Government and tourism office headed by Hembler Mendoza in promoting Cebuano culture and gastronomy,” said Tefel Pesigan-Valentino, Megaworld Lifestyle Mall vice president and head of marketing and business development.

The weeklong Lechon Festival is currently happening and will end on Aug. 12. The Grand Lechon parade is happening today and will feature lechon-themed floats performers, a street dance and marching bands. In the evening, a Lechon Night will be held where guests can feast on lechon, grilled meat and seafood while listening to live bands.

Every 5 p.m. from today until Aug. 5, Pinoy games will be available for guests to participate in with giant versions of piko, tumbang preso and habulang biik. The best news is that during the festival, guests can buy lechon for P400 per kilo from all participating lechon makers.

“Our goal is to generate increased awareness for our local lechon makers,” added Valentino.

Some of the local lechon makers to be featured during the event include Co-Z-Na lechon, Ayers lechon and Yobab lechon among others. Festival goers can immerse themselves through the entire lechon preparation process at Mactan Alfresco’s Lechon Pit where they can witness how lechon is made from seasoning to roasting at the coal pit to portioning and serving on their own plates.

“Apart from giving local businesses the platform to showcase their lechon products, we are also looking to raise the status of this great dish as a main pillar of food tourism in Cebu. Through this, we hope to grow Cebu’s reputation further as a top tourist attraction while also becoming a catalyst for regional economic growth and more livelihood opportunities,” said Kevin Tan, head, Megaworld Lifestyle Malls.

Head to Mactan Newtown now. Dine and relax at the 500-seater Mactan Alfresco and immerse in Cebuano culture by tasting and learning more about the original Cebu lechon.
