Barangay Granada wins DOH Sandugo award

BARANGAY Granada in Bacolod City won the 2018 Sandugo award given by the Department of Health (DOH) on August 1 in a ceremony held at Punta Villa in Iloilo City.

Barangay captain Alfredo Talimodao and several others received the said award, which has been a product of the worthwhile efforts of the barangay officials and the people who voluntarily donated their blood for the sake of saving the lives of others.

Dancing Assistant Secretary Eric Tayag also graced the occasion.

Talimodao said this has been the project of Barangay Granada that started during the time of former punong barangay Salvacion Sombillo.

The blood donation is in line with their program dubbed as “Dugo ko Kabuhi mo,” wherein they hold it three times a year.

In every blood donation drive, more than 100 volunteers donate their blood, which was then turned over to the blood bank of the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital and the Negros First Blood Bank.

Residents of Barangay Granada enjoy a privilege of availing blood if one needs it during medication or emergency cases.

“I just issue a certification which they can present it either to the two blood banks. Our barangay issues certification on a 24/7 basis because blood is so important during emergency and medication. Any resident can just come any time of the day and even night time because we are ready to help. This is one of the vital programs of our administration wherein our people can truly benefit,” Talimodao said.

As a Sandugo awardee, Barangay Granada received P100,000 as a prize which will be utilized by the City Government of Bacolod through the City Health Office.

CHO head Carmela Gensoli was also around during the awarding ceremony. (CNC)
