Bacolod police: Crimes in July down by 18.85%

CRIME incidents in Bacolod City have reduced by 18.85 percent last month.

Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana, public information officer of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said 198 criminal incidents were recorded from July 1 to 31 this year compared to last year’s 244 cases, covering the same period.

For index crimes, 42 incidents were recorded this year against 88 cases last year, with a decrease of 46 or 52.27 percent.

For eight focus crimes, theft has the highest number with 15 cases; physical injury, 13; robbery, 8; rape, 3; murder, 2; and motor napping, 1. No homicide and car napping incidents recorded.

Gabana said police-initiated operations increased by 37 or 72.55 percent, with 88 operations in 2018 compared to 51 operations in 2017.

Gabana said the reduction of criminal incidents in the city can be attributed to the deployment of policemen in streets and intensified visibility patrol of personnel in police stations.

On the campaign against illegal drugs, BCPO has conducted 34 operations which resulted in the apprehension of 49 persons.

Of the total number, three high-value targets, three street-level targets, and 43 newly-identified drug personalities were arrested. A total of 86 cases were filed.

A total of 313.1018 grams of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) amounting to P4, 696.527 were seized in 31 days.

For illegal gambling, 35 operations were conducted and 107 persons were arrested. A total of 35 cases were filed.

Gabana said the BCPO also conducted 65 operations and arrested 35 wanted persons.

Two most wanted persons and 33 other wanted persons were collared.

For the anti-loitering campaign, 333 minors were rescued from 253 operations.

About 954 persons were arrested through Oplan Sita, wherein police conduct checkpoint in strategic areas and 556 were collared through Oplan Bulabog, wherein police conduct random inspections in communities to flush out the criminals.

On the campaign against loose firearms, 90 operations were conducted with a confiscation of two high-powered, three low-powered, and five homemade firearms.

Three high-powered and three low-powered firearms were surrendered to the BCPO.

Nine persons were charged with illegal possession of firearms. (GYM)
