Iloilo city mayor backs City Hall job hires termination

ILOILO City Mayor Jose Espinosa III concurs with the termination of several City Hall job hires.

Last week, the City Administrator lawyer Hernando Galvez declared that they have dismissed around 40 job hires under the Public Safety and Transportation Management Office and 32 under the Task Force Beautification.

Galvez deemed that they found out that employees of the task force were not natives of the village of their area of jurisdiction. As for recommendations, an employee should be residing within the area of assignment.

“I am very open to change for the better for efficiency and transparency,” Espinosa said.

Espinosa expressed that he’ll leave the task to review on the aspect of administration to Galvez.

“I will be under study, upon receipt of recommendations, we will try to see and discuss further the pros and cons of the abolition,” he said.

The review and recommendation leads to the “firing and hiring” of the City Hall employees however, the final decision will be based on Espinosa.

“It should be based on efficiency and transparency,” Espinosa said.

Espinosa stressed that the dismissal of job hires will not affect his position as it “has been ongoing” and employees “should understand” the nature of their work.

After leaving the task to Galvez, Espinosa explained that the “back stops with the mayor.”

“But on the recommendations as to who and what and how to proceed, we are leaving it to them,” he added. (Carolyn Jane Abello)
