BACOLOR -- The National Food Authority (NFA) sold affordable rice to residents of Barangay Tinajero in this town on Friday, August 3, amid reports that the agency’s stock of subsidized rice has already ran out.
NFA-Pampanga Provincial Director Rafael Marasigan and Mayor Jose Mari “Jomar” Hizon led the sale of some 100 sacks of ‘affordable but quality’ rice to indigent Bacoloreños, priced at P27 per kilo.
According to Marasigan, each resident-beneficiaries were entitled to but up to five kilos of rice per family to ensure that supplies can accommodate all intended beneficiaries in the said barangay.
“Ito iyong tinatawag namin na Rice Delivery Program kung saan nagbebenta ang NFA ng mura pero maganda klase ng bigas sa mga lugar na nasalanta ng kalamidad o classified bilang nasa poverty o below poverty line (This is what we call as Rice Delivery Program in where NFA sells affordable but good quality of rice in the area which were affected by calamities or classified as poverty or below poverty line),” Marasigan.
Since the start of this year, Marasigan said that they have already conducted the same program in some ten communities in the province which are all either calamity victims or part of the marginalized or indigenous communities, including an Aeta community in Magalang town.
He added the program is conducted in an aim to distribute newly delivered imported rice and make it available, accessible and affordable to Kapampangans and Filipinos as a whole.
“Ito ay bagong deliver na bigas, kakababa lang mula sa barko kaya masasabi natin na maganda ang kalidad, mabango at maputi at ito ay handog natin sa mga Kapampangan sa murang halaga lamang (This is newly delivered rice, that's why we can say this is of good quality, has good odor and white and we offer this to Kapampangan at a very low price),” he said.
Hizon, for his part, extended his gratitude to NFA for reaching out to the residents of Barangay Tinajero and providing a good quality rice at a very affordable rice.
“Malaking tulong ito sa mga kababayan ko dito lalo na at karamihan sa mga tagarito sa Barangay Tinajero ay nabubuhay within or even below the poverty line (This is of big help to our people here especially majority who are from Barangay Tinajero lived within or even below the poverty line),” he said.
Hizon also debunked the conception about the quality of NFA’s subsidized rice and noted that the quality of rice distributed in Barangay Tinajero was above his expectations.
He also expressed his hope that the NFA will continue to reach out to Bacoloreños and sustain its Rice Delivery Program on other barangays in Bacolor.
