Task Force Kable removes dangling wires

AFTER clearing Osmeña Street of messy wires and dangling cables, the Task Force Kable has started cleaning up “spaghetti wires” along Velez, Pabayo, and Corrales streets, which are key commercial areas of Cagayan de Oro.

To date, the task force has retrieved a total of 179.5 kilometers of unused wires and cables. It has also removed 46 old poles along the streets.

National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) regional director Ted Buenavista, chairperson for Operation of the task force, said initially, they have already retrieved 70 kilometer of unused wires and 346 meters of unused cable in Pabayo Street alone.

Some 37 pieces of alley arms and 12 pieces of old poles were also removed.

As soon as all the unused wires and cables are removed, the city government is planning to have an underground wiring system in which telecommunication cables and wires will be placed underground and make the city streets free of messy wires that are sore to the public eye.

Task Force Hapsay Kable, headed by City Mayor Oscar Moreno and co-chaired by National Telecommunications Commission Regional Director Teodoro Buenavista and Lao, was formed to “re-groom” Cagayan de Oro and become a “smart city” through clean-up of sagging, inactive or abandoned wires and cables throughout the city.

The group has partnered with local telecommunication companies as well as the Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company to particularly facilitate the replacement of their old, brittle, and heavier posts.
