Allado leaves Global Cebu

AFTER calling the shots for Global Cebu FC since the departure of Ahkbar Nawas early this year, Marjo Allado stepped down as the club’s head coach this week.

Allado, who has been with Global Cebu FC for three years, resigned as head coach due to the financial status of the club.

“One of the reasons for my resignation is the financial status of the club, which makes my daily coaching life difficult. I endured hardships so many months with no salary and no assistant coaches but I am still always there in training and in games to support the club and love of the game,” wrote Allado in his resignation letter.

Allado was loyal to the club, either as an assistant or a head coach, through its highs in the United Football League (UFL), the Philippine Football League (PFL), RHB Singapore Cup, Asian Football Confederation (AFC)Cup, and its lows. But Allado couldn’t bear anymore not getting paid for his services.

“I already informed them to look for another coach three weeks ago because I’m really having a hard time with my daily expenses. I gave my resignation letter last Thursday. I’m waiting for Steve (Marcella), the goalkeeping coach, to arrive so that there will be someone to take care of the team,” Allado told SunStar Cebu. “At the moment, after I leave, he’ll be the one to handle the team. Mark Jarvis mentioned to me he already found someone (a coach) in Hong Kong.”

Jarvis has taken over the management of the club from previous owner Arvin Carranza, who bought it from Dan Palami.

According to Allado, he hasn’t received any offers of a coaching stint from any PFL team. He said that he’ll focus on his coaching duties with the University of Santo Tomas (UST).

Since Palami sold Global FC last year, the club has been in decline. The core of last year’s PFL runner-up team left for different clubs in the Philippines and Asia.

After finishing second last year, Global Cebu is last in the six-team PFL with only five points from a 1-2-16 record from 19 matches. EKA
