Without any lead, Talisay police turns to public for help to find Bas’ killers

IT has been two weeks since Barangay Cansojong, Talisay City councilor Art Stephen Bas was ambushed and murdered and police have yet to identify the suspects. Supt. Marlu Conag, Talisay City Police chief, said that even though they already have footage from security cameras that recorded the incident, the images cannot help identify Bas’ killers.

They also sought the help of a private bus company to determine if one of their units was able to take footage of the suspects. Conag is urging those who were able to take a photo of the gunmen and posted them on social media to come out and help them identify the killers.

This, after some netizens posted photos of the alleged gunmen after Bas was shot to death. Conag said their investigators are also coordinating with the Bas family to get other possible motives in the councilor’s murder. He assured the public that they continue to work on Bas’ case despite the limited information they have on his killers.

Bas was driving his car on his way to school when three men on board two motorcycles ambushed him at the Cebu South Coastal Road two weeks ago. Police are looking at different angles, including the possibility that it was a case of mistaken identity. Bas, 23, is the eldest son of former Lagtang village chief Marc Ferdinand Bas, who was suspected of being involved in illegal drugs. (JKV)
