Editorial: What a shame

The video of Presidential Communication Assistant Secretary Esther Margaux "Mocha" Uson and her co-host, social media blogger Drew Olivar, supposedly explaining federalism, is downright irritating and disgusting.

In the video, Uson’s companion was seen dancing about “pepedederalismo.”

He was pointing to his groin and breast area while singing and dancing: "Ipepe, ipepe. Idede, idede. Ipede, pede, pede, pederalismo!"

"Pepe" is a colloquial word for reproductive organ while "dede" is a Filipino term for breast.

Then he went on and read his notes the definition of federalism, like a high school student reading a report without even explaining it.

What a shame.

The latest stunt of Uson, a public official, has again irked the public, even officials including the strong ally of President of Rodrigo Duterte, Senator Aquilino “Kiko” Pimentel II.

Pimentel urged Uson to go on leave after the public expressed outrage on the video.

"Ako ay nagkamali... Kasi naman ang pagkakaintindi ko hindi na siya ang in-charge kundi isang tao na mas meron otoridad at kaalaman sa pederalismo tulad ng mga miyembero ng consultative commission. Di ko lubos akalain na bababuyin pala nila ang kawsa ng pederalismo," Pimentel said.

"Even without the dance and the song... listen to the statement they read. Mali-mali pa ang substance," Pimentel said, as he urged Uson to study more.

"Ilayo na si Mocha sa federalism. Mag-aral muna siya ng mabuti," he added.

Uson bastardized a very serious topic, which is changing the 1987 Philippine Constitution.

Shame on her.

Uson was earlier tapped by the Consultative Committee which was tasked by President Rodrigo Duterte to amend the Charter to make way for federalism, help in the information drive.

And again, that move was proven to be a joke. A joke that no one’s laughing.

Remember Mocha? She’s the public official who invoked her right against self-“discrimination” when she was confronted during a Senate hearing on fake news.

She also thought Mayon Volcano is in Naga City.

How much is her salary again?

What a shame.
