Barangay Taculing councilman passes away

VILLAGE Councilman Dante Basan of Barangay Taculing in Bacolod City passed away Sunday, August 5, due to a heart attack.

Basan, 44, the number one village councilman, joined politics in 2013. He was also a former Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) kagawad.

Councilor Lady Gles Gonzales, president of Barangay League, said Monday, August 6, that Basan was rushed to a hospital on Saturday afternoon, August 4, but he did not survive.

“He is a good public servant and an asset of Barangay Taculing,” she said.

Gonzales, village chief of Barangay Taculing, added that Basan is like a big brother to her and he has several pending plans and programs for the village.

“He is a man with a good heart. He will do everything for the people of Barangay Taculing. I know him when I was five years old and he also helped me when I was an Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman,” Gonzales added.

Basan's remains will be brought to St. Peter Chapels in Barangay Alijis and it will be transferred to Barangay Taculing Hall on Friday, August .

Meanwhile, May Theresa Malongayon, officer-in-charge of Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Bacolod, said the Barangay Taculing Council should pass a resolution recommending any person to occupy the post of Basan.

“The Barangay Taculing Council will make a recommendation that will be approved by the mayor,” he said.

Malongayon disclosed that only the mayor can appoint to occupy the vacant post in Barangay Taculing. (MAP)
