Boy, 13, dies of suspected meningococcemia

ISABELA Mayor Joselito Malabor said Monday, August 6, that a 13-year-old boy died of suspected meningococcemia at Don Ignacio Arroyo District Hospital on Thursday, August 2.

The boy was immediately buried the following day.

Malabor said that blood samples of the boy was submitted by the hospital to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) to confirm if the victim died of meningococcemia.

Malabor said the residents of the barangay where the boy lived need not to worry because a massive vaccination and medication has already been conducted in the area and in the school where the boy studied.

The mayor also said that based on the statement of the victim's family, he got a high fever, rashes on the different parts of the body and joint pains which are also symptoms of meningo. He was brought to the hospital on August 1 and died the next day.
