Pacya: Honoring socio-economic development advocates

AFTER the gigantic task and lengthy process of screening and judging the entries for the first La Trinidad Gawad Parangal for cooperatives, the municipality has now scheduled its awarding ceremonies on August 9 at the Municipal Gym (2 p.m.-8 p.m.).

For the award categories, 16 cooperatives submitted its entry for the Best Performing Cooperatives (micro, small, medium and large categories), three leaders vied for the Outstanding Cooperative Leader award and unfortunately, only one barangay council passed its application for the Best Performing Barangay Co-op Development Council.

There will be special awards for cooperatives with Outstanding Community Involvement and Development Program; Excellence in Membership Growth and Expansion Program; Remarkable Cooperative Solidarity and Partnership Program and; Excellence in Providing Financial Products and Services to the Community.

The process included a paper validation from the different judges representing agencies and organizations. The validators came from the Cooperative Development Authority–CAR, La Trinidad Cooperative Development Council, Benguet Provincial Cooperative Union, Provincial Local Government Unit through its Cooperative Development Services Office and the Municipal Local Government Unit represented by Department Heads and Mayor Romeo Salda who also served as the chairperson of the Board of Judges.

The ordinance supporting the conduct of the incentives and award program for cooperatives was crafted in 2016 but this is its first year of implementation. In 2017, the budget allotted for the program was obligated for this year to cover the prizes and other representation expenses. The support of the legislative and executive branches made the possible implementation of the program.

The event will feature talks from winning cooperatives, leaders and the representative of the Municipal Cooperative Development Council. It will end with a music jam and cooperative night.

Aside from the motivation from co-workers and family, your son is also encouraged to help in the implementation of programs for the development of cooperatives because he sees that the co-op movement in La Trinidad is very moving.
