TILE pushers from around the country will once again set foot in the Summer Capital for the eighth staging of the Panagbenga Open Scrabble Tournament slated February 28 to 29.

Two divisions will be played in the two-day tournament organized by the Baguio Benguet Word Builders Club with huge cash prizes and trophies awaiting winners in the tournament to be held at the Golden Pine Hotel.

The open division is expected to lure top scrabble players from all over the country with Roger Parcha-mento, Odette Rio, and other caliber scrabble players expected to swamp the tournament for the top prize of P10,000 with the first runner-up bringing home P7,000.

The second runner-up in the open division meanwhile will receive P5,000 while the third runner-up gets P3,000 and the fourth runner-up to bring home P2,000.

A P2,000 cash prize awaits the top winner in the beginners division while the first runner-up gets P1,000. Prizes for the second to fourth runners-up are P750, P500, and P300.

Special prizes also await the high bingo, high score, highest losing game and most flowery word during the competition while the last placers in both divisions will receive the sausage award.

Registration fee for the open division will be P1,000 while the beginners division will charged with P500 which will include two lunches and free-flowing coffee and tea.

Registration will be opened at 8 am on the 28th at the grand ballroom of the Golden Pine Hotel while the games would start promptly at 9 am.

Organizers said all beginners and first time tournament players are invited to a free "Scrabble Clinic" on Saturday, February 13 at Kubong Sawali along Military Cut Off Road.

Starting time will be at 10 a.m. Free word lists will be distributed.
