THE food business unit of Aboitiz Equity Ventures (AEV) has expanded its product lines on feeds to cater to the growing gamefowl industry.
“The gamefowl industry is growing. As a feed manufacturer, we see this growth as a responsibility to serve and satisfy our customers with better products,” said Sabin
Aboitiz, president and chief executive officer of Pilmico, in a press conference last Tuesday.
Aboitiz reported that the gamefowl population has reached 40 million, of which about 20 to 25 percent are meant for business purposes, and the rest, for entertainment or hobbies for enthusiasts.
In 2009, the gamefowl industry was estimated to be worth P50 billion, he said.
Pilmico’s move into gamefowl feed is aimed at increasing its contribution to the earnings of AEV, the publicly listed holding and investment management company of the Aboitiz family.
Although it is the first time for the company to venture into the gamefowl industry, Aboitiz said Pilmico is committed to expanding its product lines, increasing its output and improving the distribution network to gain a better share of the feed market.
“It took us more than a year to join the industry because we had to study the market well to ensure our customers that we are producing the right feed with the right nutrients,” said Norie Bermudez, Pilmico regional sales manager–Visayas.
Variants
Pilmico launched its product, Salto, a new feed designed for gamefowl. It comes in five variants: Salto Booster, Salto Baby Stag Developer, Salto Stag Developer, Salto Maintenance and Salto Conditioner.
Hendel Cabral, Pilmico vice president for sales and marketing, assured customers that the prices of these new products were competitive.
“And the company has put emphasis on the quality of these feeds,” he said.
Cabral added that Salto products are available in the authorized agricenters and agriposts of the company in the Visayas.
“And we are hoping to spread its distribution eventually, nationwide,” he said.
Other products of Pilmico include flour, and feeds for poultry and swine.
