CEBU (Updated) -- An agent of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) was gunned down by riding-in-tandem assailants around 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, in Barangay Perrelos, Carcar City, Cebu.

Senior Police Officer 2 Meliton Agadier identified the fatality as Von Rian Tecson, who succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.

Tecson was on the passenger's seat of his Ford Ranger when he was attacked. He reportedly was able to shoot back at the gunman, who was seen boarding a sports utility vehicle.

The shooting happened 100 meters from his Tecson's residence in Barangay Perrelos. He was on his way home from Cebu City.

Tecson's driver, identified as Arnulfo Bauyaban, suffered a graze wound in the right thigh.

Bauyaban told the police that he saw two riding-in-tandems, or four assailants, who carried out the attack. He said one of the culprits is a woman.

Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Manuel Javier Abrugena has ordered a manhunt operation against the assailants.

He also instructed investigators to determine the motive behind the attack and find witnesses who can identify the culprits.

Tecson was one of the team leaders in anti-narcotics operations, said a PDEA-Central Visayas officer who asked not be named.

Tecson is the second PDEA agent killed in 12 days.

Last July 27, PDEA agent Baby "Earl" Rallos was shot dead while he was driving his car along Villalon Drive in Cebu City.

Tecson's older brother, Senior Police Officer 1 Von Tecson of Carcar City Police Station, believes the attack has something to do with the victim's work as a team leader in anti-drug operations.

The police officer said his brother had told him about receiving death threats, adding the victim received text messages telling him "they" would avenge their arrest made by the PDEA agent and Rallos. (SunStar Cebu)
