KRIS Aquino may have a small role in the “Crazy Rich Asians” movie, but her arrival to the Hollywood premiere was anything but small.
The 47-year-old actress attended the premiere in a yellow modernized Filipiniana gown. As of last week, her presence at the premiere was still up in the air after she was hospitalized with a severe allergic reaction. But she made it to Los Angeles Tuesday night.
“This was the reason we made the effort to be here...” Aquino said on Instagram, sharing a video of some Filipino fans happily greeting her upon her arrival at the TCL Chinese Theatres. “It is my honor to proudly represent the Philippines. Maraming salamat po sa effort n’yo (Thank you so much for your effort) to show your love and support! #kaysarapmagingpilipino.”
She revealed that she tried on five gowns by Francis Libiran and Michael Leyva. She eventually chose a gown by the latter. Yellow was the color associated with Aquino’s late mother, former president Corazon Aquino, and former president Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III kept the tradition.
Her jewelry was by Diagold. According to a Philippine Entertainment Portal report, the jewelry is worth millions—worth a franchise of a gasoline station. But Aquino clarified it was on loan.
“Crazy Rich Asians,” headlined by Constance Wu, is a film with an all-Asian cast based on the book by Kevin Kwan. Aquino plays Princess Intan. The movie arrives in Philippine theaters on Aug. 22. JGA
