City DILG creates office for federalism campaign

THE Iloilo City’s Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) created a Project Management Office (PMO) in preparation for the “all-out campaign” for Federalism.

Last 2016, on his first State of the Nation Address (Sona), President Rodrigo Duterte directed the DILG to be the “lead government agency in studying, advocating and campaigning” the planned new form of government.

City DILG head Ferdinand Panes said in an interview with the media at the Iloilo City Hall on August 9, they have conducted initial orientation in barangays since the start of Duterte’s leadership.

“Even during staff meeting in barangay sessions or associations,” he added.

The information campaign mainly from the lecture of Federalism 101 or “basic federalism”.

“We are ready anytime. We want to discuss Federalism,” Panes said.

The lecture includes the structure of government, comparison of countries implementing Federalism compared to presidential form of government

Previously, Panes pointed out that they called for a meeting among the barangay officials by batch.

“The barangay officials are concerned in what will happen to every barangas if Federalism will be implemented,” he said.

Panes expressed that they will provide guide to the barangay officials and assemblies. (Carolyn Jane Abello)
