NINETY Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) were trained by the Gender and Development (GAD) unit of the Zamboanga City Mayor’s office in collaboration with the City Health Office.
The activity, dubbed as Training on WHO-Child Growth Standards for BNS, is part of a regular capability-building program.
The training, held from August 6 to 7, focuses on the gaps and knowledge, skills and values in performing the BNS roles to better contribute to the improvement of nutrition situation in the barangays.
Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said the BNS program provides each barangay with a trained community worker to deliver basic nutrition and related health services.
She said it involves the recruitment, training, deployment and supervision of BNS as mandated by the Presidential Decree (PD) No. 1569 wherein there should be one BNS in every barangay to monitor the nutritional status of children and link communities with nutrition and related service providers.
