BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia tagged the Bacolod Anti-Baha Alliance as the political arm of former mayor Monico Puentevella.
This, after the group chaired by Jean Trebol earlier asked the City Government the cause of the recent floods in Bacolod which they considered as another wake-up call for the city officials.
“They are the same persons complaining the floods during my administration, but during the time of Puentevella, they are so quiet,” Leonardia said.
He said it is really ridiculous to attack the ongoing drainage construction at Lacson Street.
“It is an ongoing project so what you will do since it is an ongoing (work),” he added.
The group sent a letter to City Administrator John Orola Jr. asking the cause of floods in some areas in the city.
Leonardia said the City Government is doing its best to address the flood problems in various areas.
He said the flood problem is not only in Bacolod but as well as in some areas in Negros Occidental.
“At least here, we are doing something about it,” he added.
The mayor noted that the Pert Consultants, who are based in Bataan, had already started its study for Bacolod drainage master plan.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) had earlier allotted P16 million for the study, but it was reduced to P14 million.
City District Engineer Abraham Villareal had earlier said the drainage master plan is a big help for Bacolod to address the flood problems where they will connect the national and local drainages to address the flood problems.
“If we have a drainage master plan we can identify the drainages that passing through the local roads,” he said. (MAP)
