PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justice Jose Reyes Jr. as an associate justice of the Supreme Court, replacing retired associate justice Presbitero Velasco Jr.
Reyes will take oath on Monday, August 13, Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go said in a text message to reporters.
Malacañang has yet to release a copy of Reyes's appointment paper.
Prior to his new stint at the high court, Reyes was appointed to the CA in 2003.
He also served as a Metropolitan Trial Court judge in Pasig City and Regional Trial Court judge in Rizal before being tapped as CA associate justice.
In 2017, Reyes penned the CA ruling in favor of the government, ordering the Prieto-Rufino clan to vacate the controversial Mile Long property in Makati City. (Ruth Abbey Gita/SunStar Philippines)
