2 evacuees hospitalized with dengue

DISPLACED residents staying in makeshift shelters at the provincial capitol park have been worrying for their condition after two fellow evacuees were hospitalized due to dengue fever.

Sariza Acosta, spokesperson of the Tagtabulon lumad organization, said a 14-year-old girl and and a 23-year-old man were admitted at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) because of dengue early this week.

Acosta said the man was already discharged while the girl stayed for five days now since Monday.

“Nakagawas na ang hamtong ug ang bata na lang nabilin pero ok naman daw to siya (The elder one was already discharged, the younger one is still confined but is already safe),” she said.

Acosta said the provincial government already facilitated the hospitalization of those who were infected with dengue fever.

However, she said fellow evacuees feared that others may get similar disease because of their living condition at the park.

“Nabalaka gyud ang uban ug kabalo na ang taga kapitolyo unya nitabang na pud sila pag facilitate sa pagpa-hospital (People are worried, and the capitol was already informed who in turn helped facilitate the hospitalization),” Acosta said.

She said other “bakwits” (evacuees) especially the children and the elderly have experienced other health problems such as cough and chickenpox.

Governor Yevgeny Emano has ordered the provincial health office to attend to the medical needs of the evacuees.

Other daily concerns were also addressed after Emano talked to the leaders of the evacuees last Monday.

The evacuees from Sitio Camansi, Banglay in Lagonglong town fled their homes and have set camp for more than two months already due to “intense militarization” in their community.

They have been enduring the environment that they were not used to which for them became one of the causes of health problems.

But, the group insist that they will not return home unless the military pulls out their detachment and leave their place.
