P850-M pump project in Ifugao to open by 2020

THE Alfonso Lista Pump Irrigation Project (ALPIP) worth P850 million which started 2012 is expected to be finished in the year 2020.

The irrigation project in Ifugao is a multi-year locally funded irrigation project of National Irrigation Administration in the region which seeks to provide timely water supply for irrigation to agricultural lands.

Engineer Samuel Bahiwag, NIA-CAR Chief Engineering Section said the special project is intended to increase agricultural productions.

ALPIP will draw water from the existing Magat resoirvoir in Cagayan Valley through the use of mechanical pumps, and provision tunneling irrigation facilities and irrigation structures.

At least 1,315 farmers will benefit from the irrigation with 2,300 hectares of farm land benefitting.

“At present this project is still ongoing. We have a total accomplishment of 25.27 percent as of July 15 and the works are still continuing and the same time, the remaining fund of P411 million will be allotted for 2019,” added Bahiwag.

Engineer Bradley Grospe, acting division manager engineer and operations of NIA-CAR said the ALPIP project is very unique in Cordillera as the water from the Magat Reservoir serves as a major tributary coming from the Ibulao River.

Engineer Jone Dulnuan, provincial head of the Ifugao Satellite Office stated for the province of Ifugao, as of December 2017, the province with a potential irrigable area of 25,830 hectares, at least 15,009 hectares or 58.09 percent irrigated.
