Pangan: A tribute to a remarkable leader

AMONG the most respected government officials in Central Luzon and probably in the whole country, is Angeles City Mayor Edgardo D. Pamintuan, whose constitutional term as local chief executive of this much-improved city will end next year.

He has accomplished much for his beloved Angeles City and will leave, albeit temporarily, the seat of power while he entertains the prospect of entering the congressional race for the First District of Pampanga and there clash with the incumbent congressman Lazatiin and come back aspirant Roseller "Yeng" Guiao.

If accomplishments were to be an accurate gauge for win ability, Mayor Ed will easily take the congressional seat in next year's elections. No doubt about that although the other aspirants may have good credentials to show.

Mayor Ed, the world-class mayor, is both an accomplished local chief executive and a friend. In a modest yet sustained way, he has included me in his priorities and I am thankful to him for his sincere concern.

His professional career and personal circumstances speak well of the man as he goes under scrutiny by the electorate in the next year's electoral exercise. He has excelled in both aspects, I dare say.

He has led his city to higher levels of governance and has put premium for his constituents' welfare, so in the congressional race, he expects to get the district's endorsement and vote. Say hello to Congressman Ed D. Pamintuan!

Incidentally, a nice column was written by Max L. Sangil accounting for Mayor Ed's traits and accomplishments.

In Mabalacat City, Mayor Crisostomo C. Garbo is active in civic work to all barangays of this city, the latest of which is in sitio Haduan.

Touching base with residents of this far-flung area, Mayor Cris made sure he ascertained the needs of residents therein and promptly addressed their concerns. Next stop was Dau, the vote-rich premier barangay. With his hands-on style, he is sure to get the patronage of the voters of Dau.

The competition for mayorship would perhaps be between Mayor Cris and City Vice Mayor Christian C. Halili. Whoever will win in 2019 will surely be a Cris, give or take some ardent support from followers and supporters, plus the block vote of the powerful religious group, the Iglesia ni Cristo.

The two Crises are both hard workers, for the welfare of their constituents, of course. This time, the voting strengths of the contenders will be put to a stern test. Whoever wins, may Mabalacat City be blessed!
