FEATURING innovative bag designs highlighting Philippine culture and natural resources, Ninobasilio Bags are making waves among fashionistas and women.

Basil Yap Cabaral, Ninobasilio owner, said the bags are made from woven pandan leaves.

“It is really one of our aims to bring the woven bags into the industry but also giving it another twist,” Cabaral said in an interview during the kick-off of the Mindanao Trade Expo (MTE) 2018, on Saturday, August 11, at Abreeza Mall, Davao City.

He added that he wants to help provide employment to the local community.

Cabaral said he recognizes that the concept is not new and many others have created similar products.

“We know that the woven bags industry is not first in the country, a lot have been doing it already. That is why for us, we are investing in the color schemes instead,” Cabaral said.

Cabaral said they are using colors like turquoise, green, and pink to fit the style of women’s demand in bags.

“We also make sure that our bags are not only for a cultural statement, but also usable and efficient for women,” Cabaral said.

Cabaral said the inspiration of the establishment came after seeing the opportunity of the wives of tubo farmers in Negros who can have an additional source of income through using the excess leaves of pandan in creating bags.

Cabaral added MTE is a good avenue in showcasing the local business industry in Davao.

“Actually, the MTE is a chance for us to also let Dabawenyos see what our company is,” Cabaral said.

Cabaral added the Department of Trade Industry (DTI) also helped in providing training on bag weaving to the weavers.

“In this way, Ninobasilio Bags is also helping the community. To those people who are also looking for jobs, our company is ready to provided,” Cabaral said.

Cabaral added through the company’s effort, Ninobasilio bags is leading people to opt for a job that pays and gives contribution to the Philippine culture through the bag industry.

“At least, they do not get to opt for wasting their time in doing vices. With their work here, at least, they can help earn for themselves or even for their family,” Cabaral said.

“Currently, we are thinking of expanding the business in Bohol by gathering weavers as well there and just like here provide a job for them,” Cabaral said.
