PCL condemns spate of killings

THE Philippine Councilors League (PCL) condemned the recent murder of a municipal councilor in Lagayan, Abra.

Based on reports, Lagayan councilor Isagani Ambaoa Joson was gunned down by an unidentified assailant on August 8.

PCL national Ccair and Davao City Councilor Danilo C. Dayanghirang on Sunday, August 12, issued a statement on behalf of the league, condemning the killing of the councilor who was merely executing his duty.

“The deaths of Hon. Joson and other PCL members killed in the previous months are greatly felt by the organization. Councilors are only doing their jobs as legislators and should not be killed,” Dayanghirang said.

Joson was shot dead inside his house in Sitio Manaois in Poblacion, Lagayan, Abra, Wednesday night.

Dayanghirang said that Joson was the fifth PCL member killed this year.

Councilors Alfredo Alvarez and Zaldy Mallari, both in Cagayan Valley, were shot dead in July and May, respectively. Ronilo Mamaclay of Saranggani was killed in June and Alexander Alicaway of Cebu was slain in an ambush last March.
