Negrense softbelles suffer 3rd loss in World Series

THE young Negros First Softball Team suffered their third heartbreaking defeat in the Little League Softball World Series 2018 in Portland, Oregon.

The Negrense softbelles, representing Asia-Pacific, lost to the host-team of Lake Oswego Girls Softball Little League of Oregon, 1-0, on Megan Chiang’s lone score in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Meanwhile, they had another heartbreaking defeat against Wheelersburg Little League of Ohio representing Central, 3-2. The Negrenses were up by 2-1 at the top of the 4th inning on scores from Anna Leah Dolorfino and Angel Zyra Motin.

But Maddison Kotcamp equalized the scoreboard on an error by second baseman April Ann Mongcal in the bottom of 6th. The game extended to 9th inning where Rileigh Lang saved the day for Central.

Yesterday, Southwest’s Eastbank Little League of River Ridge, Louisiana disappointed the young Pinay batters after a shocking 4-0 start. The Negrenses tried to catch up behind Mongcal in the bottom of 4th while added two more runs in the next inning courtesy of Dolorfino and Jhaycel Roldan.

But, the efforts of the Negrenses weren’t enough to snatch the win.

At press time, Negros First is playing their last game in the group against Latin-America’s Cuauhtemoc Little League from Monterrey, Mexico. (HGD)
