Soldier injured in clash with NPA rebels

A SOLDIER was wounded in a clash with New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in the hinterlands of Misamis Occidental, a top military official said.

Major General Roseller Murillo, Army’s 1st Infantry Division commander, said the clash occurred 9 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2018 in Hoyohoy village, Tangub City.

Murillo said the troops of the Army’s 10th Infantry Battalion headed by Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Severo were checking the reported presence gunmen when they clashed with a group of NPA rebels, who were harassing the residents in Hoyohoy.

The army commander said the firefight lasted for about 40 minutes after which the NPA rebels fled.

He did not release the identity of the soldier except in saying he was slightly wounded during the clash.

He said the troops have recovered an AK-47 rifle, two sacks of rice of 25 kilos each, dried fish and a backpack abandoned by the NPA rebels. (SunStar Philippines)
