USTP partners with Chinese universities for research

THE University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) and two universities in China have partnered for research and education development.

Officials of the USTP have recently visited Xiamen University of Technology and Harbin University of Science and Technology for the signing of memorandum of understanding (MOU) boosting their partnership for education and research, faculty development and scholarship, exchange of academic materials and publications, faculty exchange for research, lectures, seminars and discussion, and student exchange and research.

Academic areas for partnership are in applied mathematics and sciences, computing and information science and technology, electrical engineering, electronics and communication engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, civil engineering, architecture, chemistry and environmental engineering, automation, arts and education.

The three universities will also be partners in expanding studies on architecture, information technology, information and data science, engineering and technology, mathematics and sciences, and English language and literature as well.

Initally, Harbin University of Science and Technology has offered two full scholarships for two USTP faculty who want to study in China, under the Chinese government scholarships.

Present during the MOU signing were Dr. Rosalito Aquino, OIC-president of USTP, chancellors Ruth Cabahug and Consorcio Namoso Jr, and Herbert Glenn Reyes, executive assistant to the president for external affairs.

Cagayan de Oro and Harbin in China are sister cities while the city and Xiamen observe special friendship ties.

The local government’s sister city program aims to foster international understanding and cultivate international friendship in the pursuit of partnerships in trade, economic and human resource development, including culture and the arts.
