De Leon: The ‘ask me a question’ on Instagram

SOCIAL media platform Instagram (IG) has been releasing so many new features lately that it's quite hard to keep up. In the last few weeks, we've seen the addition of an app feature that alerts you when you've seen everything new in your feed, the knack to add music to your IG stories and a way to video chat with friends — and that's just naming a few.

More so, the company introduced yet another new feature: to add a question sticker to your story. It's a fun and exciting way to make your account more engaging and it's something we’ve all seen all over.

“Ask Me a Question” has only been on IG for the past few weeks or so, but everyone – and I mean every user – has used it at least once since then (Yup! That includes me, as well).

Nevertheless, what has happened since it came about is that literally people have posted nothing but those “Ask Me a Question” stickers, and IG stories have somehow lost its appeal of showing the universe what their friends are up to.

Some users have dubbed the sticker vain, while others totally take pleasure in the slumbook-like vibe of it – possibly the same cause why ask.fm and curiouscat.me became so well-liked when they first came out, too.

Yet, if we look past the custom “Ask Me a Question” question, there is essentially a lot that you can make with this new feature. But you need those creative juices to start flowing.

Instead of the default “Ask Me a Question,” why not crowdsource for new job opportunities or potential collaborations on passion projects?

Instead of just talking about you, why not get to know your followers better instead? You never know. You might rekindle an old friendship or spark new ones as you go on.
