Jeepney driver killed in shootout with police

A JEEPNEY driver from San Simon town was killed by policemen after allegedly initiating a shootout during drug bust in Barangay San Jose Timac recently.

Chief Inspector Louie Gonzaga, this town’s chief of police, identified the suspect as Vergel Valencia, 52, who was identified as a source of illegal drugs in San Simon and nearby Baliuag towns.

During the operation, Gonzaga said that Valencia sensed he was dealing with authorities, prompting him to draw his gun and shoot the police officer who served as a poseur buyer.

The police officer, who was hit on his chest was saved by his bulletproof vest, then retaliated and shot the victim who was hit in different parts of his body resulting to his immediate death.

Confiscated from the suspect were seven sachets of illegal drugs and the marked money to be used during the operation.

Further investigation revealed that aside from the suspect’s involvement in the illegal drugs trade, he was also allegedly facing cases of robbery and rape in Malolos City, Bulacan province.
