Inmates get Tesda training

FIFTY inmates of the Talisay City Jail received cash assistance from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) after completing a skills training program.

The 50 inmates completed bread and pastry training with a national certification 2 equivalency, said Coleen Enajada, Talisay City Social Welfare Office (TCSWO) community training and employment officer.

Enajada said that following their graduation last week, the 50 inmates, composed of 27 males and 23 females, received a P1, 580 livelihood assistance from Rep. Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr. (Cebu, 1st district).

The livelihood assistance was allocated by Gullas and transmitted to Tesda as funding for the Private Education Scholarship Financial Assistance (Pespa) and the Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP).

The livelihood assistance will serve as capital should they plan to engage in their chosen business once they get out of jail, Enajada said.

Aside from bread and pastry training, the City Government is also providing skills training for those interested to learn welding, carpentry, barangay health servicing, housekeeping, hilot wellness and others. (JKV)
