Editorial: Noise barrage

THE fight is not yet over for the employees union of now-defunct Bacolod Our Lady of Mercy Specialty Hospital (BOLMSH) as they have yet to receive the separation pay from the hospital management after it shut down on July 31.

The displaced workers held a noise barrage Monday morning, August 13, in front of the hospital to press for a just separation pay.

Some of the 401 employees are demanding the hospital management to pay them one month of every year for their years of service.

PhilHealth earlier denied the accreditation of BOLMSH, considered by many as the “hospital for the poor,” due to fraudulent activities in the previous years under the former management, Tiong Bi Inc.

It was supposed to shut down its operations on June 30 but was extended for one month due to the intervention of the City Government.

Last month, PhilHealth denied the motion for reconsideration submitted by the hospital management.

But an amicable settlement was reached on August 13 by the hospital management and the employees union following a hearing conducted by the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC).

Both parties have agreed on a separation pay of 20 days every year for five years, which will be given in 20 days.

Previous hospital owner, Tiong Bi, will also give the same pay - 20 days every year - for 13 years. The pay will be released on a staggered basis in the span of six months.

Unfortunately, healthcare services were still disrupted, and jobs were lost.
