Drug personality dies in shootout, another arrested

AN ALLEGED drug personality was killed while another was arrested following a shootout in Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province, the police said Tuesday, August 14, 2018.

Superintendent Glizen Niño Manese, Isabela City police chief, said the shootout happened at 2:50 p.m. Monday in Menzi village.

Manese identified the slain suspect as Alpahad Hadi, a resident of Sapah Bulak, Sumisip, Basilan. Arrested was Ismael Mukahlul Daggong, 27, a newly-identified drug pusher.

He said the shootout ensued when Hadi opened fire and traded shots upon seeing the arriving policemen out to serve warrant of arrest against Uring Aliyarin Akil.

He said Akil, who managed to escape, has two standing warrants of arrest for violation of Sections 5 and 11, Article II to Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 dated December 20, 2016 and March 2, 2017 issued by the court in Isabela City.

The police chief said Daggong was arrested in a follow-up operation launched after the shootout that resulted to the death of Hadi.

Recovered from Daggong were five heat-sealed plastic sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as “shabu,” and illegal drug paraphernalia, Manese added.

He said recovered from the site of the shootout one .9-mm Ingram sub-machine gun with live ammunition, four empty shells of .9-mm pistol and a large sachet of suspected shabu. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
