ANGELES CITY -- Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) Chief Alexander Cauguiran said that he wants to retire from public service as mayor of this city.
Cauguiran, who celebrated his 61st birthday yesterday, disclosed this during a recent meeting with various sectors in the city.
During the meeting, the CIAC head said the city needs to prepare for the massive development at the Clark airport and the New Clark City.
According to Cauguiran, he has been going around the city informing the residents about the ongoing development at the airport.
A modern airport terminal will be completed in 2020 which can accommodate 10 million passengers per year, he told the Angeles City multi-sectoral group.
Cauguiran said he has been busy inviting airlines to operate in Clark since he assumed office as CIAC chief two years ago.
“In September, I’m going to attend an aviation conference in Guanzhou, China. I’m going to negotiate with more than 20 airlines. Kahit isa man lang, dalawa o tatlo mahikayat nating lumipad sa Clark,” he said.
“Last two weeks, I negotiated with the MALINDO which means Malaysian and Indonesian, an airplane based in Malaysia. I am inviting them to fly in Clark before the end of this year meron na tayong Kuala Lumpur flight,” Cauguiran added.
Aside from this, the airport officials also said that Korean Airlines is planning to establish routes from Clark to other Asian countries, he said.
Early this month, Cauguiran bared his plan to run for mayor in this highly urbanized city.
He said that he wants to serve the city his fellow Angelenos as local chief executive.
Cauguiran’s possible opponents in the mayoralty race next year are Vice- Mayor Bryan Nepomuceno and Councilor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin.
