Valley declares Teachers Day every October

EVERY first week of October is Teachers Day in La Trinidad, capital town of Benguet.

Members of the municipal council of La Trinidad approved on third and final reading the proposed ordinance "declaring the first week of October of every year as the Teachers Day in the municipality."

Councilor Nestor Fongwan Jr. in his ordinance said the municipal government of La Trinidad recognizes the role of committed teachers in the municipality on whom the education of the children depends.

"In order to instill motivation for exemplary and efficient service in our teachers from both public and private schools, we will adopt a policy that will grant awards and citations of commendation to the municipality," Fongwan said.

The October event will also pave way for a provided venue for the teachers to conduct activities that will enhance camaraderie and professionalism.

A Teacher's Day Committee will also be created, composed of employees, local government unit, and teachers whose function is to prepare the implementing rules and regulations for the implementation of the ordinance to conduct variety of activities such as but not limited to teacher's forum, presentation, games and any other activity which will make the teachers feel their importance in the society.

The LGU will appropriate P300,000 from the municipal general fund or the municipal school board fund for the implementation of the ordinance.
