7 suspected NPA members killed in Antique clash

(UPDATED) Seven suspected members of the communist New People's Army were killed in a shootout with the police in a town in Antique, Western Visayas, on Wednesday dawn.

In a police report, joint elements of the San Jose municipal police led by Superintendent Mark Anthony Darroca and military troops, were about to serve the arrest warrant against Jason Talibo and Joven Ceralvo, who were facing murder charges, in Barangay Atabay around 12:10 a.m., August 15, when they heard several gun shots.

The authorities fought and an exchange of gunfire ensued.

The report added the gun fight lasted for at least 33 minutes.

Western Visayas Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao said those who died were Talibo; Karen Ceralvo, 41; Felix Salditos, 60; Jason Sanchez, 27; Rene Yap, 61; Liezel Bandiola and an unidentified male person.

Seralvo is still at large, police said.

Recovered from the scene were three hand grenades, two 40mm ammunition, two rifle grenade, a homemade single shot shotgun 12 gauge, two homemade .38 calibre pistol, a homemade KJ9, three KJ9 magazine, two empty magazine of unknown firearm, two laptop, 22 analog cellphone, seven android cellphone, five tablet, a canon DLSR camera, five pieces canon DLSR spare batteries, two pocket wifi, a powerbank and assorted documents.
