Civil security personnel killed by suspected rebels

A CIVIL security personnel of Moises Padilla town in Negros Occidental was gunned down by two unidentified men on a motorcycle at Barangay Guinpanaan Tuesday morning, August 14.

Killed was Michol June Ruales, 33, of the said village.

Inspector Minardo Ellaga, deputy chief of Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station, said the victim and his minor-daughter were riding a motorcycle on their way home around 11 a.m. when they were followed by the assailants from the town proper.

One of the assailants then fired at the victim, hitting his head and causing the motorcycle to fell on her daughter, who sustained minor injuries.

The gunman even shot the victim again at close range.

A nearby resident tried to help the victim and his daughter but the assailants threatened him and told him “wala kamo labot di. NPA ni” (You have no involvement here. We are the New People’s Army), Ellaga said. Then they fled.

Ruales was rushed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Regional Memorial Hospital in Bacolod City, where he was declared dead.

Police recovered from the scene two fired bullets of .45 caliber pistol and a fired bullet of .9mm caliber.

Police have yet to determine the motive but Ellaga said Ruales received previous threats from the suspected rebels.

Still, Ellaga said they cannot yet confirm if indeed the suspected rebels were behind the killing.
