TED Montoyo and Kenneth Ballo-allo Jr. bagged their respective titles in the just-concluded Second Pagkilit-Anay Sa Board Liwat 2018 Kim B. Dumdum Memorial Chess Tournament at the covered court of STI-West Negros University (WNU) in Bacolod City.
The third-seeded Montoyo (6.0pts/7rds, 31.0BH) edged fourth-ranked PO3 Ernie Abanco (6.0/7, 31.5) in the Open category in the penultimate round. Eventual second placer Abanco was followed by Francis Panes (5.5/7, 32.0).
Completing the top 10 finishers were Ellan Asuela (5.5/7, 31.5), 4th place; Rodrigo Atutobo (5.0/7, 31.0), 5th place; Errol Zamora (5.0/7, 28.0), 6th place; Raymund De La Pena (5.0/7, 28.0), 7th place; Marvin Ting (5.0/7, 26.0), 8th place; Jethro Jimenez (4.5/7, 28.0), 9th; and Alfred Acaling (4.5/7, 27.5), 10th place.
The 16 and under division was topped by the seeded Ballo-allo of STI-WNU who dominated with seven wins out of seven rounds.
Rounding up the top 10 after Ballo-allo (7.0/7, 28.5) were 2nd placer Clark Ken Pelione (6.0/7, 28.5), John Valmoria (5.5/7, 31.5), Charles Montalvo (5.5/7, 27.0), Jamelin Lim (5.0/7, 34.5), Karl Bardinas (5.0/7, 31.0), Neil Vincent Cena (5.0/7, 29.5), Jasmine Atienza (5.0/7, 28.5), Faith Jenilo (5.0/7, 26.0), and Einre Mar Abanco (5.0/7, 23.0).
Cash prizes were awarded on August 11 at STI-WNU and August 12 at City Mall Mandalagan of this rapid chess tournament organized by Negros Chess Association.
