FOUR Chinese nationals, three of whom are senior citizens, were hurt after the baggage elevator of a private resort in Oslob collapsed.

Police identified the injured as Panwan Hua, 41; Panze Xi, 72; Pan Xue Bing, 61; and Dong Ling, 32.

The four are natives of Guangzhou, People's Republic of China.

Police Officer 2 Albert Almario of the Oslob Police Station said the four just came from Barangay Tan-awan to watch the famous whale sharks when upon returning to the Seafari Hotel where they were staying, they decided to take the baggage elevator on their way to the hotel.

The hotel is situated in a cliff in Barangay Tan-awan and is a long walk from the highway toward the hotel proper.

The four Chinese nationals tried to convince in-house security guard Dionisio Heyuca to allow them to take the baggage elevator but the guard refused.

The elevator is only for baggage transportation.

But the Chinese nationals reportedly continued to convince him until Heyuca allowed them.

While onboard the elevator, the line that held the elevator suddenly snapped just a few feet before arriving at the lobby door, causing the accident.

The depth of the elevator shaft is 10 feet.

Hotel staff rushed the four Chinese nationals to the Oslob District Hospital where they are currently being treated. (SunStar Cebu)
