2 nabbed for possession of guns, explosive components

TWO people were arrested in possession of guns and bomb-making components in a joint police and military operation in Zamboanga City, the police said Wednesday, August 15, 2018.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said arrested were Sagumbahar Sagumayan Akbar and Samandi Tutuh Imbas, both residents of Taluksangay village, 19 kilometers east of this city.

She said they were arrested around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday at Purok 6 in Taluksangay village by serving search warrants issued by the court for violation of Republic Act No. 10591 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

The information officer said recovered from Akbar the following: one M-16 Armalite rifle, caliber .45 pistol, 9-mm pistol, several rounds of ammunition a rifle grenade, and a rifle bag.

She said recovered from Imbas were the following: two one-liter soft drink bottles filled with ammonium nitrate; a caliber .45 pistol; ammunition; and, a bag.

Ammonium nitrate is one of the components in fabricating improvised bomb.

Galvez said Akbar and Imbas were detained as appropriate charges are being readied to be filed against them. (SunStar Philippines)
