THE MUNICIPALITY of La Trinidad in Benguet is seeking to strengthen its policing system and anti-criminality programs.

Introduced on first reading in the Sangguniang Bayan is the institutionalization of anti-criminality programs, projects and activities (PPAs) in the municipality.

"Anti-criminality programs will further improve the relationship of the community with the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station (LTMPS) in improving security while providing a holistic positive approach in managing current peace and order concerns," said Councilor Roderick Awingan, proponent of the ordinance.

During the public consultation on August 7, included in the proposed ordinance is the creation of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) section of the La Trinidad police.

The councilor mentioned the mobilization of SWAT personnel is necessary to act as reaction team in cases of robbery in armed confrontation and other life threatening incidents.

Several PPAs include the focus police patrol operations comprised of the LTMPS in coordination with the community to form sectored foot patrol team in every barangay comprised of women's brigade, barangay tanods, and barangay officials.

Institutionalization of anti-criminality programs comprised of the neighborhood watch program which remain as a community partnership where neighbors protect each other’s house and immediately reports to the police and the barangays.

Other programs include the municipal bike patrol team and tanod biker program to enhance police presence in the identified crime prone areas.

Capability building programs, Saturday muster inspection, spiritual and moral enhancement, radio interview, conferring of awards and commendations are also incorporated.

The annual local anti-criminality action plan be regularly updated by the local peace and order council incorporated in the annual investment plan of the municipality which include PPAs related to the peace and order in the Valley.

Funds necessary for the effective implementation of the ordinance will be appropriated under the support to the LTMPS in the annual budget of the municipality.
