Huge forest fire hits Barangay Tamayong

A FOREST fire erupted in Upper 6, Barangay Tamayong, Calinan, located in an upland area in Davao City, and its geographical location challenged firefighters from suppressing the flame.

Based on the initial information provided by the Davao City Information Office (CIO), the Central 911/Disaster Risk Reduction Operations Center confirmed that there’s an ongoing forest fire there.

The report said that based on the initial assessment, there was seven to 15 hectares of forest land are slowly being consumed by the fire.

The 911 Fire Auxiliary Service personnel responded and tried to contain the fire along with the personnel of Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

Meanwhile, Senior Fire Officer (SFO2) Ramil Gillado, officer-in-charge of the Intelligence and Investigation Unit of BFP-Davao, said that they got the report around 10:58 a.m. The fire station in Calinan and Central 911 Fire Auxiliary Services were also in the area and have joined forces, however, the fire trucks can no longer penetrate because of its location. As of 2 p.m., the fire was still ongoing.

Gillado said that the fire was put under control at 4:50 p.m., damaging around five hectares of forest and grassland. Around 6 p.m., Wednesday, August 15, firefighters have yet to declare fire out as the overhauling and clearing operation are still being conducted to prevent the rekindling of the fire.
