Davao, Israel ink MOA on education project

DAVAO City signed an agreement with Israel last August 15 at the Marco Polo Hotel for the improvement of the education sector in the city.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) of “Excellence in Education: A Lighthouse Project” with PassItForward Chairman Shmuel Weiss and witnessed by Israel Ambassador to the Philippines Effie Ben Matityau.

The project was designed to enhance education in Davao City Public Schools, starting with the Mintal National Comprehensive High School as selected by the Department of Education.

“We will start with one school, one project to make sure we create an environment of sustainability,” Matityau said, adding that a lighthouse design is not just about changing the whole system with new ideas but to start small scale and let the people see what is the meaning of change.

The project aims to improve the delivery of quality education to Davao learners by providing capacity building activities or trainings for the teachers on the Innovation, Science and technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (i-STEAM) curriculum.

Meanwhile, Duterte-Carpio expressed her gratitude to the partners and said that the initiative will boost the capacities of the teachers of Mintal National Comprehensive High School so that they may improve the way they teach.

She also said that Israel has been showing a lot of support since her first term as Mayor in Davao City and expects that the diplomatic relations between the two will not be limited with the said project but would extend to other more sustainable development initiatives.

The signing of the Declaration of Commitment and Partnership of the same project was executed last November 2017.
