Cluster sanitary landfills eyed in Misamis Oriental

SOME P62 million worth of two clustered sanitary landfill are expected to be built soon in the two districts of Misamis Oriental.

Dr. Josefino Bascug, officer-in-charge of the capitol's Planning and Development Office, said the Regional Development Council (RDC) has already approved the request of the provincial government for a functional sanitary landfill.

The two sanitary landfill will be built in Medina and Alubijid towns to serve all municipalities in the east and west portion of the province.

"Kani nga cluster sanitary landfill mao na ni ang mo-cater sa tanang lungsod sa west and east part," Bascug said.

Bascug said the capitol's Solidwaste and Management Board chaired by Governor Yevgeny Emano has agreed to request the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for a level three functional sanitary landfill.

He said a level-three sanitary landfill can accommodate hospital and other toxic wastes.

Bascug said the proposal was already submitted to Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for fund sources.

Each cluster is expected to receive P31 million budget based on the P62 million proposal.

"Walay gastuhon ang kapitolyo ani ug toa na sa national ang papers for funding request,"Bascug said.

"Around 5.5 hectares ang sa Medina pero sa Alubijid dili kaayo ko sigurado sa figure,"he added.

Bascug added the capitol would only shell out an allocation for staffing and management once the facilities are built.
