Oro villages urged to discover new tourism sites

CAGAYAN de Oro City Councilor Jay Pascual on Monday urged barangay officials to identify their own local tourist destinations in an aim to boost Cagayan de Oro's tourism industry.

Pascual, the chairperson of the committee on tourism said he wants to create a comprehensive tourism plan for the city with the participation of the city's 80 barangays.

"We urge the barangays to participate because they are the only ones who know what destinations should be promoted and needs development," he said.

"I made some arrangements with barangay captains like in Mambuaya, they have Spring Resort but the problem is the road going there needs to be fixed, we also have the same problem in Dansolihon where we have the Crystal Cave," he said.

Even ancestral homes that need preservation could also be a potential tourist site.

Pascual cited the need to allocate a budget for the development of these tourist sites.

"We are calling barangay leaders to identify potential tourist spots in their respective areas and report it to the City Government so that we can allocate a budget. We want each of their tourist spots to be preserved so that they can officially be part of our history and culture," he added.

Cagayan de Oro is famous for its white water rafting, downtown heritage sites, among others, but the city is likewise trying to promote tourist spots in the hinterlands.
