Durian feast

WHILE we see an abundance of fruits during the Kadayawan season, it cannot be denied that Durian remains to be the most popular.

Despite its strong and unpleasant smell, the durian is loved by its milky and soft meat, which has a strong and tangy taste.

This addictive fruit have made its way to the heart of many and converted others; though there are still those who resist it.

Here are some ways you can enjoy the durian during the Kadayawan Festival,

1. Eat-all-you can

SM Lanang Premier, in partnership in the Durian Industry Council of Davao City, is staging the Kadayawan Durian Festival on August 10 to September 23 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. What sets this apart from the mall's annual activity is this time they are offering a durian buffet!

For only P199 per person, you can enjoy the durian buffet on weekdays. Consumption is limited to one hour only and with one vendor of your choice. Durian variety is subject to availability.

2. As a dessert

A number of cafes, restaurants, home bakers, or food enterprises in the city has came up with their very own take on a durian-flavored dessert. Be it a sponge cake, cheesecake, or an ice cream, you can find it in one of the restaurants of the city. Two of my personal favorites are Aling Foping's Durian Halo-halo and Lachi's Durian Cheesecake.

3. As a drink

Whether it is cold or hot, we have seen a variety of durian-flavored drinks from different food establishments. One of the most popular is Blugre Coffee's Durian Coffee. What's great about the drink is neither the coffee nor durian overpowered each other; rather the two complement one another nicely.
