World rugby training starts

THE three-day World Rugby Training and Education Courses opens today at the SOS Children's Village in Davao City.

Philippine Rugby Football Union (PRFU) regional development officer Blessie Kate Delos Santos said in a Facebook interview with Sun.Star Davao Wednesday, August 15.

Steph Yee, a senior physiotherapist of Prohealth Sports and Spinal Physiotherapy Centers, will tackle first aid in rugby during the first day while PRFU rugby development manager Jovan Masalunga will discuss match officiating level 1 on the second day.

The program will be capped with a coaching level 1 course to be facilitated by Philippine Volcane National Team member Acee San Juan on Sunday, August 19.

Meanwhile, the annual Kadayawan Rugby Festival will be held on August 18, 25 and 26 in two different venues.

The Rugby 7's will be staged on August 18 at the Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Matina field.

Arch-rivals Davao Durians Rugby Football Club and the Dadiangas Generals of General Santos City will clash against each other in the men's division while Davao Durians women’s team will collide with entries from General Santos and Cebu City.

The two-day GIR 7's Touch Rugby event, on the other hand, will open on August 25 at the University of Mindanao (UM) ROTC field. The festival will feature the elementary and high school divisions.
