Traffic personnel press charges vs couple

THE Makati barangay traffic personnel have officially filed charges against the couple who assaulted them after they were flagged down over a traffic violation in Makati City on August 13.

Makati City Police Chief Senior Superintendent Rogelio Simon said charges of direct assault against a person in authority were filled by the Magallanes village traffic personnel against Arnold Padilla and his partner before the Makati fiscal’s office.

In a closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage in Barangay Magallanes on August 13, a black car being tailed by a sports utility vehicle was seen beating the traffic light, prompting the traffic police to flag them down.

Padilla and his partner, however, alighted from the black car and a heated argument ensued.

The couple’s bodyguard, who alighted from the SUV, attacked and punched one of the traffic personnel who in defense hit them with a baton.

Simon said the couple is “well-known” in Magallanes village because they are wealthy and had been complained in the barangay for a couple of times already.

“This is the same personality that was involved in the gift bomb in 2010,” he said.

Padilla was allegedly involved in sending a “gift bomb” that resulted in the killing of his own sister, Yvonne Geraldine Padilla-Chua. Chua's daughter, then six years old, was also injured in the incident.

Manuel Padilla, Chua's cousin who filed charges against Arnold and their mom, Arlene, said the killing of Chua was all about money. (SunStar Philippines)
