Rebels own up death of town civil security personnel

THE Leonardo Panaligan Command (LPC) of the New People’s Army (NPA) admitted they were behind the killing of a civil security personnel in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental last Tuesday.

In a press statement on Wednesday, LPC spokesperson Ka JB Regalado, said Michol June Ruales, 33, of Barangay Guinpanaan, was a force multiplier used by the government on its counter-insurgency program.

On August 14, Ruales and his minor-daughter, who were riding a motorcycle, were on their way home when they were followed by two unidentified assailants.

One of the assailants then fired at the victim, hitting his head. He succumbed to three gunshot wounds while his daughter was unharmed.

Police recovered from the scene two fired bullets of .45 caliber pistol and a fired bullet of .9mm caliber.

Police said Ruales had previous threats from the suspected rebels.

Regalado also tagged the victim in the killing of a farmer in the Fifth District in April this year.

The group also alleged that Ruales used his power and guns to intimidate the residents in the town.

The group said that not all members of the civil defense security are their targets, but only those who are allowing themselves to be used to threaten the community.
