Community college to rise in Gingoog City

A MORE than P40-million academic institution that offers tertiary education to Senior High School graduates in Gingoog City is set to rise beside the People's Playground in the belt of Barangay 22 in the eastern part of Misamis Oriental.

According to Gingoog City Mayor Marie Guingona, it has been the city's long dream to have its community college.

"It has been a long, long dream for this city to build, operate and establish its own academic institution that will offer tertiary education to Senior High graduates," Guingona said.

Edmar Pabia, Gingoog City information officer, said Community College of Gingoog City will offer three 4-year courses. The college will have a P42.7-million building for the students and a two-storey administration building.

"Double purpose to because in the morning, the building caters elementary, graders ng isang (of a) central school. At tsaka pag 5 in the afternoon, pag vacate ng mga graders, papasok na yung mga colleges (and at 5 in the afternoon, when the grade students vacate the building, that's when the college students come in)," Pabia said.

He also said that the construction of the students' building has already started last July and is expected to be completed in 2019.

Pabia added that the administration building will be constructed on Monday, August 20. Its expected completion is within this year.

Guingona, for her part, also expressed willingness to partner CCGC with the University of Makati (U-Mak).

"With U-Mak's academic excellence and expertise, our potential professionals will be squarely prepared for a better market in the near future," Guingona said.

Acting college administrator Joel Dalde shared that CCGC will serve as a missionary school which offers Bachelor of Science (BS) in Entrepreneurship, BS Agri-business and Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Its total population is 2014 students, who are temporarily roomed in at Don Restituto Baol Central School building.
